The High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development closed its annual session on July 8, 2015, with the adoption of a declaration that committed ministers from around the world to establishing a ‘strong, universal, ambitious, inclusive and people-centered’ post-2015 development agenda that completes the unfinished business of the Millennium Development Goals and responds to new challenges. The 59^th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women convened during March 2015, Women’s Month, to review and appraise the 20^th anniversary of the Beijing Platform for Action which was signed by 189 nations at the 4^th World Conference on Women in Beijing in 1995. It also considered the outcome documents of the 23^rd Special Session of the General Assembly which reviewed the implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action five years after its adoption. Thousands of women gathered in New York March 2-20, 2015 for the 59^th session of the Commission on the Status of Women. Having as theme “Beijing + 20,” the session had as its main focus the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, both the progress achieved and the challenges that remain.
