CSocD Brings Sisters from Across Latin America to UN

In February 2019, the Congregations of St. Joseph at the United Nations NGO invited four Sisters of St. Joseph from Latin America to participate in the 57th Session of the Commission for Social Development (CSocD). This year’s priority theme was “Addressing inequalities and challenges to social inclusion through fiscal, wage and social protection policies.” Throughout the event, the UN focused on the emerging issues of “empowerment of people affected by natural and human-made disasters to reduce inequality: Addressing the differential impact on persons with disabilities, older persons and youth.” (more…)

70th Anniversary of Universal Declaration of Human Rights

On 10 December, the United Nations celebrated the 70th anniversary of the proclamation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). This monumental document, which has been translated into over 500 languages, was the first document of its kind to lay out fundamental human rights that should be guaranteed and protected across the globe. Containing a preamble and 30 articles, the document touches on everything from slavery to discrimination, from torture to migration, from social security to education, and much more in-between.
